DBpixelhouse recently returned from the Brussels Expo centre, where we were official AV & IT suppliers for Labelexpo Europe 2017. Organised by the business to business media group, Tarsus, Labelexpo Europe is their flagship show, and universally considered to be the largest label event in the world. Spread over four days at the end of September, Labelexpo is attended by 650 exhibitors and attracts more than 35,000 visitors from all over the world.

Fiona Harrison, Senior Account Manager for DBpixelhouse commented on our involvement with the show: “We’ve had the pleasure of working with Tarsus on Labelexpo for a number of years—it’s always one of the main events on our calendar as official suppliers, and one we invest considerable resources in. I’m the lead Account Manager, with Lance Smith who works alongside me to ensure DBpixelhouse can accommodate everything the organisers need, from AV & IT hire, through to the provision of Wi-Fi hotspots and other event network connectivity. In addition to the projects we undertook for Tarsus, there were numerous exhibitors supplied by DBpixelhouse, with packages ranging from a single screen on a stand, through to a full-scale LED wall and multi-media installation. A lot of the exhibitor orders were taken by DB Account Managers other than Lance or I, with our onsite project management team of Katy Stannard and Tom Hartley coordinating everything on the ground.”

Tom discussed the logistics of providing AV & IT technology for Labelexpo, and how ultimate customer satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do: “Although the event was only open for four days, we had crew onsite in Brussels building, running and de-rigging our AV equipment for ten days. We started rigging the larger stands and organiser areas first, before moving on to the smaller exhibition spaces when the exhibitors arrived to set up their stands.”

For this year’s Labelexpo, DBpixelhouse supplied a wide variety of technology and services for the exhibition organisers, including a video wall located by the registration area in the entrance of the exhibition. Tom described the process of setting the wall up: “Sean Best built the video wall in the registration area over the space of one very long day. Made up of 30 Samsung UE46D 46-inch seamless LED screens, arranged in a 6x5 configuration; it was the first thing visitors to the event saw as they came up the escalators. The screens were fed from a rack-mounted computer with a quad HDMI output; the 4K video clip shown on the wall was split into 4 full HD outputs and spanned back into one image on the payback surface. Because we were simply playing one video file on loop, there was no need to use any specialist software or a media server.”

Additionally, DBpixelhouse provided a comprehensive audio-visual set-up for the Automation Arena, a new addition to the show for 2017, where attendees were invited to watch live demonstrations of automation used within the label printing process. Matt Thorp was the Lead Technician for DBpixelhouse in the Automation Arena, where three product demonstrations were hosted each day: “We had two 3x3 video walls made up of Samsung 46” seamless LED screens on each side of the back wall. The video content used comprised of a mixture of premade animated product information, live footage from the demonstrations and an interactive Twitter wall to keep delegates up to speed with social media from the exhibition. We also supplied two Sony EX3 broadcast quality cameras and operators, from which the live feed was routed out to the screens in the arena. Additionally, DB supplied a PA system consisting of Sennheiser G3 wireless microphones, a 16 channel Soundcraft mixer and Martin Audio F8 speakers; ensuring the audience could clearly hear the presentation, no matter where they were in the arena.”

Being the world’s premier label industry event means that exhibitors are intent on making the best possible impression to attendees, with tens of millions of Euros worth of orders being placed over the four days of Labelexpo, it’s a very serious business. Aside from the AV systems supplied for Tarsus, DBpixelhouse also provided large LED video screens to key exhibitors such as Prati and Frimpeks, as well as dozens of smaller systems to other exhibitors.

Fiona Harrison concluded: “Including the organiser areas and large stands—DBpixelhouse supplied over 70 end users at Labelexpo Europe 2017, without any notable complications. Being a biennial event, Labelexpo Europe will not take place in 2018, with other Labelexpo exhibitions hosted in Bangkok and Chicago. Labelexpo Europe will return to Brussels in 2019, and is scheduled to take place 24-27th September.
