Blenheim Horse Trials take place across 200 acres of the grounds of Blenheim Palace, with crowds of 50,000 over 4 days. The event organisers were looking at new ways of reducing cost, simplifying and amalgamating the provision of AV, audio, internet, WiFi, broadcast cameras and scoring signals around the site. Historically, every service had been running all their own cables, often down similar paths. This was wasteful in terms of labour efficiency, and cost. It also limited flexibility in terms of new initiatives and information provision to the visitors.

THE CHALLENGE

THE SOLUTION
DBs solution was to install a gigabit network backbone around the site – with more than 10km of armoured fibre. All of the other signal based services around site – indoor AV (also supplied by DB), the external LED trucks (10 in total), the broadcaster & streamer, the PA, internet and WiFi were all able to plug into the secure network to distribute their services around the site. Switching of the broadcast and scoring signals was also provided by DB, with different images on different screens for instance. The main LED trucks showed 3 separate camera feeds, plus scoring, whereas the smaller LED trucks and indoor screens had different feeds. Last minute changes were easy to make because of the flexibility of the system.

THE RESULT
A very happy customer and delighted other service partners, with the added benefit of less physical disruption around the historical site. We even coped with a triathlon being run around the site 2 days before opening.
