CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE

Event Networks and Wi-Fi | Specialist Outdoor Solutions

THE CHALLENGE

Cheltenham Gold Cup Festival includes the most numerous and largest temporary structures at any event in the UK, catering for 260,000 visitors over the 4 days of the event.

The multiple hospitality areas all require AV services. The venue management at the Jockey Club were keen to appoint a supplier with experience of working on large-scale sporting events, who could install and manage the mix of temporary and permanent network of TV screens and audio around the venue.

The Solution

DBpixelhouse manages the signal processing around the whole site, from a racked backbone of permanent and temporary systems.

A week-long site survey shortly after the contract was awarded allowed us to assess the existing infrastructure, before installing an additional 30 miles of cabling to establish a reliable network through which we sent audio and video signals around the racecourse. On race days we take a TV feed from the broadcaster and route it to the screens around the venue. All preparation work is done with not only the upcoming season in mind, but thinking ahead to subsequent years, ensuring the best value for money for the Jockey Club. The end result is DB supplys over 300 screens of various sizes, from the largest indoor and outdoor LED video walls to 42” TVs. DB also runs the signal processing and mix of permanent and temporary screens for all of other race days throughout the National Hunt season.

The Result

Working to the client’s brief, we developed a fully-managed AV solution for Cheltenham.

With a dedicated Account Manager assigned to the project and on site for the show days, there was one point of contact for the client. Our Senior Project Manager was based on site throughout the build and show days, managing a team of more than 20 specialist technicians. Come rain or fine weather, we ensured that racegoers could watch the action, wherever they chose to.
