Farnborough International Airshow 2024, a global aerospace event, faced a considerable challenge when it came to delivering reliable and high-performance network infrastructure across its vast and dynamic event site.
With an audience of over 80,000 visitors, the site required using existing permanent and extensive temporary infrastructure to support various aerospace visitors and exhibitors.
Key challenges included
75% of the event site space was made up of temporary infrastructure that had to be set up prior to the show. This meant that a rapid, efficient deployment of networking equipment was essential which required months of planning.
The network needed to support over 80,000 attendees, including high-bandwidth activities while keeping the network operational across both indoor and outdoor areas.
With the diversity of stakeholders security was a top priority, alongside ensuring reliability and performance over the entire duration of the event.

To address these challenges, a sophisticated and scalable network solution was designed, combining temporary infrastructure setup with cutting-edge technology.
A huge logistical effort was required to install temporary cabling, which supplied the venue’s multiple halls, outdoor zones, and chalet row areas. This extensive cabling ensured that every corner of the event site was covered, from exhibition halls, chalet rows to outdoor areas.
Wi-Fi and Network Access Points: Wi-Fi access points were strategically deployed across the site, including areas with high traffic such as main exhibition halls, networking zones, and outdoor areas. These APs, utilising the latest Wi-Fi technology, ensured fast, reliable wireless connectivity even in high-density areas.
Switches and Network Backbone: We deployed network switches across site to manage data traffic and ensure high-performance connectivity. The switches helped establish a resilient and scalable network, ensuring minimal latency and fast access throughout the event.
VoIP System Deployment: A Voice over IP (VoIP) system was implemented across the site, providing exhibitors, staff, and emergency services with a reliable communication platform. This system allowed for seamless voice communication over the full event.
Redundant Network Architecture: To minimise downtime, the network was designed with redundancy, using multiple fibre optic connections and deploying backup power sources for critical infrastructure.

The network infrastructure at Farnborough International Airshow 2024 was a huge success, with the complex temporary deployment proving to be both efficient and effective.
The deployment of Wi-Fi APs and extensive cabling ensured that the network delivered uninterrupted connectivity across the full site, including crowded halls and large outdoor spaces. There were no network outages, even during peak attendance periods.
